Debbie Deverell

My name is Debbie Deverell. My mob are the traditional custodians of Wadjuk and Ballardong country
(York, WA).

I am currently studying psychology (Honours) and have experience working within the mental health sector. I am passionate about Aboriginal mental health and improving mental health outcomes for our mob. Whilst studying for my undergraduate degree, I learned that on average only two Aboriginal psychologists graduate fully qualified across Australia. This discrepancy needs to change so our people can access culturally safe mental health services with Aboriginal practitioners. We urgently need more Aboriginal psychologists on the front line.

I believe in Dr Westeman’s vision, to build an army of Aboriginal psychologists. The opportunity to be a part of this vision and to be mentored by Dr Westerman as well as
network with other Aboriginal psychologists is simply priceless.
